The after-dinner walk

A 10-minute post-dinner stroll might be just what you need.

A 10-minute post-dinner stroll has known and documented health benefits including reduced incidences of heart disease and "postprandial" (after-meal) blood sugar spikes. It helps move glucose (sugar) from the blood into the muscles to improve insulin sensitivity; and provides gentle movement, community connection, and stress reduction. And, it's a relaxing way to finish the day! What are you doing after dinner?

Or, if you are unable to work, try:

• Seated Calf Raises for five to ten minutes

• Dancing, put on music and dance for five to ten minutes (go on, dig out those Rolling Stones, Abba or Credence records!)

Stop… breathe. Good, huh?

Give yourself permission to stop – it could be the best thing you can do.

Give yourself permission to stop – it could be the best thing you can do.

Yes, really. Stopping, relaxing, forgetting the world for a while, might be just what you need to come back stronger. Ask yourself… have you got a checklist? Things you need to get done before bedtime? Promises you've made that you must keep? Deadlines to meet? Are you capable of stopping?

Then think about that time a meeting was cancelled, or it rained so you couldn't go to your event, or you were freed from a commitment. How good was that?

Be kind to yourself; make it happen. Take a breather. The most productive thing you can do sometimes is absolutely nothing. You'll bounce back stronger for it. Who knows what you'll come up with when you are fully rested and charged again!

Grandchildren are wonderful and exhausting; sleep is your biological shield!

If, like me, you struggle to maintain consistent sleep, then it is time to get serious about sleep hygiene! If you are over 60, you need between 7 and 9 hours of restorative sleep each night to defend against decline, both physical and cognitive, and to keep up with the grandkids.

So, what do I do? I monitor my sleep, track sleep changes, and ensure that my sleep score is kept on track as much as possible with efforts to improve gradually. Let's talk about what's keeping you awake and how to manage it.

Simple moves… great results

We have a dumbbell program just for you!

Did you know that actor Harrison Ford, 83, still works out regularly?

His coach/trainer ensures Harrison's workout focuses on core strength and total-body conditioning. This is achieved using dumbbells and medicine balls. So, if Harrison can do it at 83, you can too.

While we're not expecting you to be as good as Grandma (pictured!) Coach Colleen has a dumbbell program to support her longevity and strength goals, and she can adapt it for you. Let’s talk.
